The rich young ruler’s encounter with Jesus shatters the illusion that human morality or wealth can secure eternal life, exposing the futility of trying to earn salvation. Since God alone is the standard of goodness, man’s attempt at self-sufficiency is impossible; instead, one must abandon all personal reliance to accept that salvation is a gift purchased solely by Christ’s ransom. True Christianity requires coming with empty hands, acknowledging that only God can transform the heart and provide a new life.
